Dutch TT at Assen (3)
A major motorcycling event, the Dutch TT (Tourist Trophy) is held in the Netherlands every year on the last Saturday of June in the Dutch town of Assen, at the TT circuit. It is part of the MotoGP World Championship. The race classes are the 125 cc, 250 cc and the MotoGP. The Assen TT circuit is known as “The Cathedral" of motorcycling. It has a capacity of 100,000 spectators, including 60,000 seats. -
Koninginnendag (3)
Koninginnedag (or Queen's Day) is a national holiday in the Netherlands. It is celebrated on 30 April or on 29 April if the 30th is a Sunday. Queen's Day celebrates the birthday of the Queen of the Netherlands and is supposed to be a day of national unity and "togetherness". Queen's Day is known for its "freemarket" (vrijmarkt) all over the country, where everybody is allowed to sell things in the streets. Other activities during Queen's Day are children's games, individual musical performances, and music concerts. The night before Queen's Day is celebrated too in some cities, and this is called Queen's Night (Koninginnenacht). The largest celebration of Queen's Day is in Amsterdam, Queen's Night in The Hague and Queen's Dance (Koninginnedans) in Rotterdam. During the celebrations as reference to the colors of the House of Orange-Nassau, people dress in the color orange. -
Dance Valley (3)
Dance Valley ("The Woodstock of Dance") is an annual dance music festival held in the summer in Spaarnwoude, the Netherlands. The first edition was in 1995 when 8.000 people attended. Dance Valley grew rapidly, both in duration and number of visitors. 2005 marked the first time the event lasted 3 days in the weekend with camping available for the concertgoers at the campsite. It rained. A record-breaking 53,000 people attended that year. Every year the crowd gets bigger with more than 60,000 people turning out in 2008. -
Gay Pride (2)
The Amsterdam Pride is an annual gay festival in the centre of Amsterdam, organized in the first weekend of August. The event usually attracts several hundred thousand visitors thus making it one of the largest public events in the Netherlands. The peak of the festival is during the canal parade, a parade of boats of large variety on the first Saturday of August, which usually goes from Westerdok over the Prinsengracht, Amstel river, Zwanenburgwal and Oudeschans to Oosterdok. The centre of the parties and concerts during the festival is the Rembrandtplein and during the festival there are many activities in the surrounding area. -
Sensation & BLACK (3)
Sensation and BLACK are 2 indoor dance events held in Amsterdam usually in the first few weeks of July. Both events are on 2 nights each and have around 50,000 tickets available for each night. Ti ckets go on sale well in advance of the date and are usually sold out within a matter of hours. Sensation is mainly Trance and house, where all the attendees dress in white clothing. BLACK is more heavy Trance and Hard style, where all attendees dress in all black.
